New year in the capital of the Incas
Let's us show you all the chaos and excitement of the New Year's celebration in Cusco.
Cusco is one of the two most popular places to celebrate New Years in Peru
The city grows in anticipation before christmas leading up to the big night. Tourists from all over Peru, Latin-American, Europe and the world gather in Cusco and fill up the hostels and hotels.
Street vendors line the streets, while natives come in from outside the city to sell their crafts and products as well as to experience the festivities.
One of the most interesting things about cruising around the open street markets is seeing all the superstitious tokens Peruvians purchase for the New Years celebration.
Yellow is the color people choose for luck, everything from yellow hats, confettis, flowers and underwears.
Fireworks are everywhere. Kids sold them on the streets, families lit them off as they walk and crazy people shot them at each other and lit them off themselves.
The most amazing thing about the fireworks is watching the sky fill up with multiple colors and explosions for hours from the main square out into the surrounding hills of Cusco.
At midnight, everyone starts running around Plaza de Armas (Main square of Cusco) for good luck. Some locals carry around suitcases as they run, which is good luck for traveling in the New Year.
It is the most incredible festivals.

Ollantaytambo reminds us of a mythical love story, a drama of love that prevails against all obstacles. It is believed that this city was built by General Inka Ollanta in a time of rebellion against the Royal army of the Inka by preventing the capture of the beautiful princess Cusi Qoyllor meaning "beautiful star".
A further 40 minutes' drive takes us to Chinchero surrounded by the colonial houses, where we will again discover the magnificence of the Incan constructions, terraces and the beauty of the local people in their traditional dresses, all surrounded by the local temple, where we´ll appreciate the painting of local people who later where well-known as the creator of the "Escuela Cusqueña" founders. The Colonial church is rich in art and jewelry and well appreciated by their population.

Did the Private Inca Jungle excursion with some adjusted camping options and loved the areas where we camped (or tried to camp as well). Flexibility is the name of the game in those mountains and this team knows how to handle it. They led a great excursion and taught us a lot about Peru and the Andean Mountains where we were cutting through. All good things for this company! Awesome adventure.
