{"id":508,"date":"2022-11-08T19:42:05","date_gmt":"2022-11-08T19:42:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/?p=508"},"modified":"2022-11-19T16:40:10","modified_gmt":"2022-11-19T16:40:10","slug":"visit-the-seven-streets-of-cusco","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/visit-the-seven-streets-of-cusco\/","title":{"rendered":"VISIT THE SEVEN STREETS OF CUSCO"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>When we think of the streets of <em><strong>Cusco<\/strong><\/em>, we visualize the cobblestone and magnificent constructions of the Inca walls that with more than 500 years of history are still present to this day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are in <em><strong>Cusco <\/strong><\/em>you can visit and discover the mysteries of these streets that have very curious stories, one of these details is that of the seven streets with the number seven, which are located surrounding the main square of <em><strong>Cusco<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>These are the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>SEVEN SNAKES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Located in the <em><strong>Nazarenas<\/strong> <\/em>square, it was later called <em>Amaru q&#8217;ata<\/em>, because of the 14 snakes in relief that it has on each side of the stonewall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, the street <em>siete culebras<\/em> is a very attractive place for visitors; it joins the <em>Plazoleta de las Nazarenas<\/em> with <em>Choquepata <\/em>Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The small square <em>Nazarenas <\/em>is located 5 minutes from the <em>Plaza de Armas<\/em> of <em>Cusco<\/em>, arriving at this square and it is easy to identify the street where the seven snakes are located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/seven-snakes-street.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"822\" height=\"489\" src=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/seven-snakes-street.jpg\" alt=\"Seven snakes street\" class=\"wp-image-570\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/seven-snakes-street.jpg 822w, https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/seven-snakes-street-300x178.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/seven-snakes-street-768x457.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/seven-snakes-street-454x270.jpg 454w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 822px) 100vw, 822px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Seven Snakes street<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>SEVEN WINDOWS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The street <strong>seven windows<\/strong> is due to the fact that before the destruction of the <em>Augustinian <\/em>temple of <em>Cusco <\/em>there was a house of studies of the convent that in its facade had 4 large windows and 3 small windows, this being one of the predominant characteristics of the street, for this reason acquired the name of the street 7 windows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today it no longer has the same number of windows since more windows were added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This street is located 7 minutes from the <em>Plaza de Armas<\/em> of <em>Cusco<\/em>; you could reach this street through <em>Santa Catalina<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/seven-windows-street.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"752\" height=\"564\" src=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/seven-windows-street.jpg\" alt=\"Seven windows street\" class=\"wp-image-571\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/seven-windows-street.jpg 752w, https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/seven-windows-street-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/seven-windows-street-360x270.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 752px) 100vw, 752px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Seven Windows street<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>SEVEN MASCARONES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In one of the houses on this street lived a Spaniard with the surname <em>Mascare\u00f1as<\/em>, he and his six sons, who were known as the <strong>seven <em>Mascarones<\/em><\/strong>. They made castings of bronze, copper and other metals with which they made designs for church door ornaments, bells, and nails for street doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That is why the street was given the name of the seven <em>Mascarones<\/em>, which to this day is known by this name. According to stories, they say that this street was very visited by couples, for being a silent and almost dark place; it is there where couples could see each other secretly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the street was not crowded, young people were tempted by the devil and most of the women got pregnant.
