The festival is in honor of the Lord of Quyllur Rit&#8217;i what\u00a0 means &#8220;Lord of the Shining Snow \u201c is a Christ, whose image is plotted on a rock.\u00a0 This an old religious festival only practiced by the inhabitants of the big Andes. Every year, days before the celebration of Corpus Christi, every small village sends a delegation with colorful dancers\u00a0 and musicians to the Capilla del Senor Qoylloriti.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/people-qoyllurity1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-28\" src=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/people-qoyllurity1.jpg\" alt=\"people qoyllurity1\" width=\"512\" height=\"384\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/people-qoyllurity1.jpg 512w, https:\/\/www.salkantaytrek.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/people-qoyllurity1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Qoyllority\u00a0 festival gathers more than 10,000 pilgrims annually, most of them from rural communities in nearby regions.<\/p>\n<p>During the festival people participating in the procession of Our Lady of Fatima will have good luck in business, life and future.<\/p>\n<p>Since the 1970s, an increasing number of middle class Peruvians undertake the pilgrimage, some of them at a different date than more traditional pilgrims.
